Cee Sure American Idiot (2003, Green Day). Dedicated to the current incumbent in the White House, the lyrics echo his incessant desire for clarity. Psycho Killer (1977, Talking Heads). These adapted lyrics are supposed to represent the thoughts of a cereal farmer. The Happy Wanderer (Friedrich-Wilhelm Möller). Written shortly after World War II, this song is also commonly found in Cuckoo Clocks with musical movements. It must be sung in a Swiss German (or Austrian) accent, fortissimo! Boom Boom Boom Boom (2003, Cris Nikolov). Inspired by Tom Lehrer & Country Joe Macdonald, this song is about the vicissitudes of being an innocent cog in the Arms Trade. Good King Wenceslas is about a king, Saint Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia (907-935). The tune is to "Tempus Adest Floridum" a 13th-century spring carol: however the current beat is to that of Bo Diddley, a 20th century master rythmatician as in “Hey, Bo Diddley” Cee Sure says: “I’d like to form a small, but perfectly formed group of 3-6 people to work on songs with arrangements and vocal harmonies and sometimes play in public too. I have been in groups before: rock and semi-punk bands in the '70'/80’s, as a drummer and vocalist . My main inspirations were Hendrix, Cream, Hawkwind, The Pink Fairies, Kevin Ayers, Faust, Beefheart, The Goons, The Bonzo's and, yes, The Beatles. (Not forgetting Frank Ifield and "I Remember You") I was at that time (and still now) also heavily influenced by comedy songs from the 20s, 30s and 40s (and George Formby); also folk music from my Bulgarian roots. I enjoy lots of world music now – from many cultures. I also have some ideas for song arrangements and I write songs too - usually black humour. I'd like the group to meet in West London (preferably Hammersmith). How about trying some of these? – "(Take a little) Piece of My Heart" Janis Joplin & Big Brother; "Kalashnikov" Goran Bregovitch with his Weddings and Funerals Orchestra - from the Kusturica film "Underground"; "Oh Darling" The Beatles; "Wochenend und Sonnenschein" Comedian Harmonists; "People Are Strange" The Doors; "Daydream" John Sebastian; "Pretty Human" (Based on a version I used to sing of "Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison); "I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts" Traditional; "Blue Canary" The Frank Chickens; "Ring of Fire" Johnny Cash; "Aa-Shuu Dekei-Oo" Huun-Hur-Tu. I have transcribed a version of a Tuvan (near Siberia) Country & Eastern song, which is a cracking little number about the joys and sorrows of journeys, horses and saddle-sores. I can sing lead/harmony in the above songs and many more; I've got the words and music for all of them. I can play most all of them on tamboura and on baritone ukulele, many on banjo and some on 6 string guitar too. Please contact me or talk to me at the gig”. crisnikolov@cee4sure.demon.co.uk Ph. 020 8748 1407 |
